he's disappointingly apologetic and moany in the interview, which can be

he doesn't question the nature of the existence of a notional "problem" in
the first place in relation to Iraq and the US.
a cynic could even say that he's using the current dissent to promote the
movie, perhaps even unintentionally so. after all, someone of his status
could hardly not say anything, and anything other than condemnation would
have damaged his critical kudos considerably.
