La Plaza de Izquierda y Piquetera
Plaza de Mayo Piquetera and of the Left

Los diarios locales se encargaron de tratar de
minimimizar la marcha a Plaza de Mayo el dia 20. Esto
es asi, porque la manifestacion fue multitudinaria y
demostro el crecimiento de la izquierda y las
organizaciones piqueteras en el ultimo aсo.

The local media tried to minimize the December 20
demonstration. This was the case because the
demonstration was huge and demonstrated the growth of
the piquetero and left organizations in the last year.

De verdad, ni el Partido Justicialista ni la UCR
podrian llenar la plaza como lo hizo la izquierda.

La delegacion solidaria a la Argentina (Partido de
Izquierda, periodico Frontlines y Comite de
Solidaridad Argentino "19 de Diciembre" estuvieron con

companeros en todos los contingentes, filmaron y
fotografiaron a la mayoria de los participantes y
podemos decir con absoluta certeza que marcharon entre

60-70,000 personas.

The truth is that the Justicialista and UCR parties
cannot fill the Plaza in the same form anymore.

The Solidarity Delegation to Argentina (Left Party,
the "December 19" Argentinean Solidarity Committee and

Frontlines newspaper) participated in most
contingents, photographed and filmed them
extensively. We can say with almost absolute
certainty that there were between 60-70,000 people
present.

Los medios indicaron alrededor de 40,000, la policia
en principio dijo 25,000 y en la sede del gobierno
metropolitano dijeron entre 30-40,000.

The media said about 40,000 participated, the police,
at the beginning said 25,000 and the Buenos Aires
metropolitan government estimated between 30-40,000.

La manifestacion fue, a pesar de la campaсa
gubernamental anunciando violencia, extremadamente
pacifica.

Los unicos incidentes fueron un breve intercambio de
golpes entre motoqueros y algunos miembros de la
seguridad del Polo Obrero; una agresion fisica del
grupo Quebracho a la delegacion de la CTA y una
treintena de manifestantes que intentaron atacar a la
policia durante la desconcentracion y que fueron
rapidamente controlados por la seguridad del Polo
Obrero, el MTL y el MIJD.

The demonstration was extremely peaceful in spite
weeks of campaigning from the government announcing
violence.

The only incidents were a brief scuffle between Polo
Obrero security and some motorcycle messengers; a
physical attack by the group Quebracho against the CTA

delegation and the attempt by around 30 people to
attack the police at the end of the event. In the
last case, the security from Polo Obrero, MTL and the
MIJD promptly controled the situation.

These are our counts of the differet contigents:

Polo Obrero (PO and other organizations): 4,000

Coordinadora Anibal Veron. They marched to the Plaza
but left the site before the political rally started.

MIJD: 7,000

MTL (including all forces of the CP; incluyendo todas

MST (both the party and its unemployed organization
has the same acronym and marched together.

PTS (marched with the occuppied factories. Marcho con
las fabricas ocupadas): 1,000

Neo Peronismo de Izquierda - Neo Peronist left
organizations (Descamisados, Montoneros, etc): 700

Quebracho/MPR20: 400

CTA Buenos Aires (only): 1,000

MAS: 200 and many of their members also marched with
the 400-strong FTC (Combative Workers Front.

movilizaron entre algunas docenas y un par de cientos
cada una.

We counted 42 contigents from neighborhood assemblies
that mobilized between several dozens and a couple
hundreds each: 3,000

Socialista / LSR / Democracia Obrera: 300.

Este grupo marcho hasta la plaza, luego se retiro y
relizo un pequeno acto publico en la Avenida 9 de
Julio.

This group marched to Plaza de Mayo and then left to
organize its own small rally in 9 de Julio Avenue.

There were contingents of several dozens to couple of
hundreds carrying banners from UST, FOS, Venceremos,
Socialismo Libertario, Partido Socialista, PSA nad
many others.

There were several thousands of independents and
people who came to the rally on their own.

Habia contigentes que iban desde varias docenas a un
par de cientos cada uno de organizaciones tales como
UST, FOS, Venceremos, Socialismo Libertario, Partido
Socialista, PSA y muchos otros.

Habia miles de personas que vinieron a la marcha y el
acto politico en forma independiente.

Raul Castells (MIJD) and Jorge Zeballos (Barrios de
Pie) presided over the political rally called under
the slogan of "Out with Duhalde Now"; "Everyone must
go!"; "For another December 19 and 20" and "For a
government of the workers and the people."

Raul Castells (MIJD) y Jorge Zeballos presidieron el
acto politico llamado bajo los slogans de Fuera
Duhalde Ya, Que se Vayan Todos, Por Otro 19 y 20 de
Diciembre y Por un Gobierno de los Trabajadores y el
Pueblo.

The rally started to dissolve when Nestor Pitrola, the

leader of Polo Obrero started to speak. Then,
thousands of people marched out of the Plaza. Pitrola
was hardly heard.

El acto politico comenzo a disolverse cuando Nestor
Pitrola, lider del Polo Obrero, comenzo a hablar. En
ese momento, miles de personas comenzaron a abandonar
la Plaza. Casi no se pudo escuchar el mensaje de
Pitrola.

En la maсana del 20 hubo otra manifestacion de
10,000
personas organizada por la Corriente Clasista y
Combativa (CCC) del Maoista PCR. Esta corriente, sin
embargo, se nego a participar de la marcha unitaria de

la tarde.

In the morning of the 20, was another demonstration of

about 20,000 in Plaza de Mayo organized by the CCC,
front group of the Maoist PCR. This current, however,
refused to march in the unity demonstrtation in the
evening.
