Re: Reply to Jurriaan and Julio
I don't know if you know who Yunus Emre is but probably you heard
about Mevlana. Both were Sufis. Maybe non-Turkish speakers would
know Mevlana as Rumi. Rumi was an intellectual whereas Yunus was
an ordinary man, like me, and he was a musician, a poet and a
Sufi, like Mevlana, but he never had any pretensions.
The stochastic history tells us that Yunus once visited Mevlana's
dergah, that is, shrine. Both were famous in their times. While
Yunus was visiting Mevlana's dergah, Mevlana gave Yunus his
"Mesnevi" (Read this as "Capital" if you like. "Mesnevi" also
comes in three volumes) to read.
After Yunus finished reading Mesnevi, Mevlana asked him what he
thought. Yunus said, it is wonderful. But if I were you, instead
of these three volumes, I would write this:
"I took shape in flesh and bones,
And came into sight as Yunus."
Yunus was able to summarize Mevlana in one sentence.
How about you?
Sabri
