Feel free to use this anecdote
Someone asked David Corn to illustrate the difference between "tragedy" and
"calamity". Corn's response was, "If the U.S. government organized a war of
conquest against the Iraqi people, and there were no demonstrations against
it, that would be a tragedy. But if there were large demonstrations against
it which were organized in large part by socialists, that would be a
calamity."
