Our local committee right now is called Students
Against War (SAW). We called the demonstration up here
last Saturday, which was a step forward. Now (take
note), WE ARE ISSUING A CALL OUT TO ALL ANTI-WAR
PEOPLE AROUND OUR PART OF THE NORTHLAND TO FORM A
BROADER COALITION, OF WHICH OUR CAMPUS GROUP WILL BE
PART OF. In order for the movement to grow and keep
momentum going, we need to unite all the anti-war
forces around. Through our work, we have made many
contacts, formed friendships with many groups that
participated and endorsed Oct 26. Now, we are going to
start a regional coalition with them to take the
movement to the next level, because we know that we
can't do it alone, and that forming a coalition like
this is in the best interest of the movement. It will
be a coalition of students and student groups, workers
and union members, Greens, members of socialist groups
like Socialist Action and ISO, pacifists,
environmentalists, NAACPers, the religious community,
etc.

If a broad and democratic, nationally organized united
front coalition like the one some of us are advocating
arises, we will ABSOLUTELY JOIN IT'S RANKS (or at
least I know that I and everyone else I know will push
the coalition to decide to do so). We are going to
issue out our call for a local regional coalition in a
few days; I'll throw it on marxmail so you can see it.

I'm done with this thread now. You've made it clear to
me that forming a coalition that isn't *yours*, that
is composed and run by all the anti-war forces in the
country, is not your priority. This upsets me, as I
think it is the wrong way for the movement, and it
will be too narrow to stop bombs from dropping on
Iraq. Come on-- with the resources, respect, and
contacts you now have, all you need to do is to issue
a call for a national conference to antiwar groups and
individuals for the purpose of initiating a bigger and
broader, nationwide coalition-- PEOPLE WOULD FLOCK TO
THIS EN MASSE! This is what the movement needs. I hope
it will happen with your participation, but I think it
will still happen without it.
