Re: It's Lula

The PT is not homogenous. As Lula said today, "20 to 30 percent of

Yes David, but as you have correctly pointed to the differences between
Brazil and Venezuela, you will undoubtely bear in mind the difference
between Brazil and Great Britain. Great Britain is an imperialist country,
and Blair can follow a rightwing line no different from Thatcher's policies
except for some compensatory policies and still win (or hope to) elections,
while Lula must of necessity have some kind of strong social policy, of the
kind that shall raise opposition home and abroad, or else be consigned to
political oblivion. Also, Blair seems to me (I'm not cognizant of the
intricate vocabulary of the English class and status divides) a middle-class
chap who could easily be played by Hugh Grant in a movie, while Lula is from
head to toe a _paraiba_ an internal immigrant from the Northeast and a
manual worker. Fact is, as much as Lula wants to turn rightwards, _la marche
des evenements_ will exert a strong Leftward pressure over him as well.
