Technical reminder

For newcomers to Marxmail, let me explain why we block messages in "html"
(or "styled") format and require "plain text". But to start with, let me
explain the difference. With styled/html, you can introduce italics, bold,
etc. and even change the font size of your email. The drawback is that it
requires at least double the number of bytes to introduce such effects,
since they are implemented as html code--thus increasing bandwidth and the
cost of maintaining Marxmail and phone connections for our subscribers in
3rd world countries. The other drawback is that styled/html does not format
properly in the digest, so that digest subscribers cannot even read your
message.

Here is how to set the option to plain-text in the more commonly used email
programs:

1. Eudora: In tools/option/styled-text, select 'send plain text only'.

2. MS Outlook: In tools/option/mail-format, select plain-text for 'send in
this message format'.

3. Netscape mail: In edit/preferences/send format, select 'convert the
message to plain text'

4. Yahoo mail: When in 'compose', select 'plain' (as opposed to 'color and
graphics')

5. Hotmail: When in compose, select 'rich-text editor off' from the tools bar.
