Forwarded from the NY State Green Party
Vote for Peace, Ecology, Justice, Democracy - Green Party, Aronowitz for
Governor, Row G
Dear Friends: (Please circulate widely)
For an equitable society, for social and economic justice, for
environmental protection and for the only party that promotes and supports
Peace and Justice, vote the Green Party line on election day, Tuesday,
November 5th and help resurrect Democracy in New York state.
Unfortunately, the polls show that the race for Governor of NY is already
over. Governor Pataki will remain Governor Pataki and, contrary to what
some people believe, voting for McCall will not make a difference.
But a few thousand votes for Stanley Aronowitz for Governor on Nov. 5th
could spell the difference in keeping the Greens alive in NY as an
officially recognized party that can get candidates on the ballot easily
and which can enroll people as registered Greens. The Green party is the
only progressive multi-issue party that represents the voice of the people,
democracy and peace. The Green Party is growing and is the only viable
alternative to the one party system of the Republicrats which owe
allegiance only to big money lobbies.
The Greens are running Stanley Aronowitz for Governor. Stanley is a union
organizer and leader, a professor and author, a longtime peace activist.
Unless the Greens get 50,000 votes for Stanley on Row G, we lose our right
to exist in New York for at least the next four years.
Progressives and peace activists like Ralph Nader, Medea Benjamin, Leslie
Cagan, Dave McReynolds, Michael Moore and Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney
have already stated their support for the Green Party and Stanley Aronowitz
for Governor of New York State. Will you join them?
"Until we stop Bush's war and reclaim the billions of tax dollars that are
being wasted, we won't have funds for environmental protection, schools,
affordable housing and human services. Unlike the Republicrats, the Green
Party won't make excuses for Bush's pre-emptive war. We won't risk
environmental disaster, rob the taxpayers to coddle corporations, or stand
by while Bush and Ashcroft shred the Constitution," says Stanley Aronowitz.
(For more about Stanley, see www.stanleyaronowitz.org)
Our country is being pushed into war by an illegitimate President selected
by the Supreme Court and who was seated because the Democrats refused to
stand for democracy and demand a count of votes in Florida, a state that
has historically disenfranchised black voters. The drive for war has the
support of the leadership of the Democratic Party including Clinton,
Schumer and McCall in NY.
The war is also a tool to divert attention from corporate criminals who
have plundered the life savings of many workers, and a devastated economy.
Income disparity, hunger and homelessness are at record levels. Cancer and
asthma rates continue to skyrocket, the United States continues to block
action on global warming, and the planet's species are being killed off at
an alarming rate. In NY, the two major parties ignore a state budget
deficit that is at $6 billion and growing, promising massive cuts in vital
programs and layoffs of state workers.
Without the Green Party, there will be some talk of peace and complaints
about Bush's push for war, but there will be no Peace Party.
There will be political deals to make some environmental laws a little
better and to keep some from getting dramatically worse, but there will be
no Environmental Party.
There will be lip service about corporate crime and corporate welfare,
taxes, the economy and jobs, welfare and hunger, health and medical care,
drug laws, and other issues, but there will be no meaningful changes
enacted - and there will be no Social and Economic Justice Party.
And, in a climate of fear of terrorism, with perpetual war being promoted
by our president, there will be no Civil Liberties Party.
Yes, the Green Party is not yet powerful at the polls. But it holds out the
possibility of genuine political choices. Keeping its ballot position in NY
is one small step toward building a viable challenge to corporate politics.
So don't waste your vote on Nov. 5th. Vote for the kind of changes you'd
really like to see. Make it possible to continue to build a movement and a
political realignment that will bring them about. Vote for your children's
future. Vote Row G for Peace, for the environment, for living wage jobs,
for social and economic justice.

P.S. Some people argue that we need to vote for Carl McCall as the "only
progressive with a realistic chance of winning." Polls consistently show
however that McCall doesn't have any chance of winning. And those who call
McCall progressive are talking about their own politics, not McCall's; at
best they are arguing for the "lesser of two evils." Throughout his career
in government and as a Vice-President of Citigroup, McCall has promoted,
not challenged, the corporate agenda. He was a leading national
spokesperson against divestment during the height of the brutality under
apartheid. In his role as state comptroller as the "world's single largest
investor" as he is fond of saying, McCall has repeatedly refused hundreds
of times to vote in favor of resolutions to hold corporations accountable
on a range of environmental, human rights and labor measures. In this
campaign, he has ruled out using his power as Governor to raise the state
minimum wage administratively or to repeal the death penalty. With the
state facing massive cuts in human service, environmental and education
programs to deal with a $6 to $10 billion deficit, he has refused to raise
taxes on the wealthy and the large corporations.
