'Real' IRA Disbandment
>According to many accounts of IRA membership,
the Army Council would have to disband the organisation for the RIRA to
close shop. Once an Army Council member is imprisoned they are replaced. No
one can remain a member of this body but there is usually a military within
the prison, therefore it is more like a split than a unilateral disbandment
of the RIRA.
Agree entirely; however, given the identities of those who have made this
statement it is of great significance. You are right, this is occuring as a
split (already a few are in denial and were so weeks ago before this came
out) but it is almost certainly a terminal split IMO.
The RIRA had little credible support to begin with and now have run into the
ground altogether after isolation from any significant support-base,
infiltration by CIA agents, the Garda crack-down and a last gasp reliance on
criminal elements:
"this Army leadership's financial motivations far outweigh their political
commitment to our struggle at this time."
