Re: On the Greens victory

Hi Fred,

I agreed with your post, though we have a different inflection in terms of
emphasis. I will only rejoice when the red flag is raised over Canberra. I
cannot see Bob Brown ever being part of the flag party either.

*Considerable satisfaction* is what I have gotten from the Cunningham
by-election result.

Although I must say that I did some canvassing of opinions among the
younger members of my extended family and they were on the 'rejoice' side.

But Fred my heart sinks right down to my boots, at the thought of taking
Bob Gould's model and substituting the Greens for the ALP within it. Do we
have to spend the next 20 years arguing about the correct orientation to
the Greens? Will we have Green entrists and Militant tendencies within the
Greens?

Will we spend our time and energies organising bbqs & chook raffles to
raise funds for the Greens electoral campaigns? Will we meet in dark and
dank halls and pass motions which Green parliamentarians will ignore in the
"national interest"?

I am for a united front with everyone, Fred, but I am for building the kind
of socialist alternative you describe, below.

Yours not dazzled by the Greens

Gary
