re: Amnesty in Iraq
The Counterpunch article on the amnesty in Iraq is the most positive
indication I have seen that the I regime may be taking some real political
steps to defend the country from the oncoming U.S. attack
All the glorification of Saddam can be set aside. We can confidently assume
that the real opinions of political prisoners and their families about the
regime are much more nuanced, to put it mildly.
The important thing is the indication that the government may be beginning
to pay the political price that has to be paid if it is to be able to
organize the masses, or allow them to organize themselves, to resist
invaders.
And only genuine mass resistance can be effective against the attack they
are facing.
I hope more news like this comes out of Iraq.
