Venezuelan oil proletariat will "scab" on boss's "strike"
The headline on the latest dispatch to cross on the AP Spanish wire appears
to say it all:
"Trabajadores petroleros van a paro general en Venezuela"
Oil employees to go on general strike in Venezuela
But reading the text of the story, it turns out the *workers* won't strike
at all. It's the oil *bosses* who are going on strike: "Top and mid level
employees ("trabajadores") of the State-owned Petrólos de Venezuela
announced on Thursday they would back the 12-hour general strike called for
Monday, while lower level salaried employees and hourly workers (obreros)
agreed to NOT SUPPORT THE PROTEST....
"The president of the biggest oil union, Rafael Rosales, said the
leadership of the Federation of Oil Workers (Fedepetrol) decided on Thursday
that they would not support the strike.
"Rosales indicated that according to surveys done by the organiation,
85% of the lower-ranking employees will not support the strike because it
has a 'political' character."
Thus is shattered the *myth* that the imperialist press has been
promoting that the oil workers in Venezuela are a privileged and reactionary
mass. Here, too, as elsewhere in that country, it is the ruling class and
its hangers-on against the vast majority of the people.
