Solidarity Saves Hugo Blanco's life

Dear friends:

Hugo Blanco, one of the legendary leaders of the
peasant mass movement of the 60s and 70s in Peru is
back in his country.

He traveled to Mexico to have surgery to save his life
from aneurisms, possibly caused by his harsh life and
the repeated beatings at the hands of the police
during his participation in the struggles of decades
past.

Once in Mexico, he had surgery, but was unsuccesful. 
He found himself without resources.  In spite the fact
that he was twice elected to the Peruvian Congress, he
enjoyed no pension and he has no economic resources of
his own.

An international campaign from some of his old
friends, helped him.  He was finally taken to the
Cuban International Neurological Restoration Center
where, after weeks of treatment, he was declared out
of immediate danger.

He must continue taking his anti-convulsive medicine
and perform a tomography every three months to avoir
receividism.

Hugo Blanco suffered the first symptoms after few days
of intensive activities among peasants in Cusco last
month of June.

He was preparing a press conference today October 16
in Lima to thank all his supporters and particularly
those internationally who sent money and those who
made possible his trip to Havana.
