Carter went further than said in that article:
with a large investment in the mujahedin,
who then stepped up attacks on the Communist government in Kabul,
Carter's guys gulled the Soviets into Afghanistan to defend the reds.
Then Carter boycotted the Moscow Olympics
--charging the USSR with interference in a sovereign nation...
That is history, and so's the rest.
