SWP & Oct. 6

Monday the following appeared in the "leftist Trainspotters" listserv:

"In L.A. Oct. 6 the anti-war demo brought together many of the usual
organizations, RCP, IS, Sparts, Greens, PL, et al. But no SWP in
sight! Does anyone know the reason the SWP would absent themselves
from such a sizeable outpouring of anti-war sentiment? Steve"

There were several replies, most along the lines of "the SWP must have been
there, you just weren't looking hard enough." Still, I checked out the
latest "Militant" online to see what it had to say about the nationwide
antiwar protests last Saturday, and found NO MENTION WHATSOEVER!

Those who have observed the SWP's descent into irrelevance over the years
may say, "So what else is new?" Still, people like me who remember the
SWP's exemplary activity building the antiwar movement of the sixties and
seventies find it really sad. Even with its pitiful 300 members, the SWP is
still one of the larger left groups and could contribute a lot to building
the movement against this new war.

Anyone else have any thought on this?

David Altman
