Re: Mormon church makes anti-war statement




Well, on the theological aspects, Stuart is correct. The Mormons
hold a number of doctrines that are anathema to most other
Christian sects, such as the belief tha the Book of Mormon
holds a status as revelation at least equal to the Bible
itself, a belief in the plurality of gods, and a belief that
humans can become gods. Much of their theology
looks like an Americanized version of gnosticism.
Having said, they have nevertheless, in little over
a century, established themselves as being very
much a part of the American mainstream, so their
taking a position against Dubya's prospective war
is a significant development, and one that should
be welcomed by us.
