Central Park rally

At least 50,000 out against the war in Central park today -- don't believe
the 10,000 media estimate. It was HUGE. Speeches by Martin Sheen, Susan
Sarandon, David Byrne, inter alia. Nice cross-section at the rally. This is
a significant part of the liberal mainstream finally getting wise to what
Bush is up to after an awful year of silence. Too late to stop this war but
it could be very significant in building a broad movement to deal what will
no dbt be worse to come.

They'll have to confront Palestine sooner or later though. There was no
mention of Israel/Palestine from the speakers' platform all day long, so I
imagine some sort of voluntary gag rule was agreed on.

By contrast, at the Oct. 26 D.C. rally I assume Zionism and imperialism
will be openly discussed -- another good reason to cheer on the
International A.N.S.W.E.R. folks.
