Marwan Barghouti due to present charge sheet against State of Israel

Tomorrow, October 3, 2002, the occupier's trial against Marwan Barghouti, 
member of
the Palestinian Legislative Council, will resume at the Tel Aviv District
Court. The trial started on September 5, several months after he was arrested by
Israeli occupation forces in Ramallah.

Tomorrow, Marwan Barghouti will present, on behalf of the Palestinian people, a
charge sheet against the State of Israel. The charge sheet covers various 
periods,
from 1948 to date, and includes numerous criminal acts committed by the State of
Israel against the Palestinian people.

The charge sheet states that "the State of Israel is criminally responsible for
crimes, which are stated to be the most serious crimes of concern to the
international community as a whole." These include the crime of genocide, crimes
against humanity, war crimes and the crime of apartheid.

The charge sheet against the State of Israel includes multiple counts of 
specific
acts of genocide, ethnic cleansing, including uprooting Palestinians by military
attacks, systematic expropriation and dispossession, including land 
confiscation,
systematic and wanton destruction of property and homes, violence to life and
person, in particular murder of all kinds, including state-sponsored
assassinations, disrupting public life and terrorizing the Palestinian 
population,
including through acts of collective punishment and reprisal, stealing, looting 
and
plundering, and infliction of serious bodily or mental harm.

The charges against the State of Israel also include arbitrary arrest and 
detention
of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, torture, ill-treatment, cruel, inhuman
and degrading treatment and punishment, mutilation, causing death and serious
injury, deliberate imposition of living conditions calculated to cause physical
destruction in whole or in part, approving and implementing legislative measures
calculated to prevent Palestinians from participation in the political, social,
economic and cultural life and the deliberate creation of conditions preventing 
the
full development of Palestinians, persecution of various groups and its members,
and depriving Palestinians of fundamental rights and freedoms because they 
oppose
foreign military occupation, colonialism, or apartheid.
