Grenada and Cuba to exchange ambassadors---first time under regime set up by U.S. invasion

GRENADA: ENVOY FROM CUBA

Grenada accepted the first
ambassador from Cuba in nearly two decades and will name an
envoy to Cuba next week. Former Prime Minister Maurice
Bishop, a Marxist, originally established relations with
Cuba and the Soviet Union in 1979. He was overthrown by a
1983 military coup that was followed by a United States
invasion.

Under pressure from the United States, Grenada
then severed diplomatic ties with the two Communist
countries. Ties with Cuba were re-established in the 1990's,
and Fidel Castro visited in 1998.    (AP)
