Frontlines editor and candidate w/ broad support

No bad for a socialist local candidate in the US. The
editor of Frontlines, Abel Mouton, the newspaper of
the Left Party, is running for a citywide office in
San Francisco. He got the endorsement of couple
radical elected officials (matt Gonzalez a Green
supervisor, and Chris Daly, a Democrat who supported
Ralph Nader for President and is himself under attack
by a section of the political machine), a number of
local newspapers, including the weekly The Guardian 
(circulation 150,000) and of course his own newspaper,
Frontlines (circulation 20,000), most of the
independent political organizations 
of immigrants citywide (Latinos, Pilipinos and
Vietnamese,etc), the Green Party, a group of about 150
trade union activists and is expected to gain the
endorsement of most of the tenants and 
independent (of the Democratic Party machine)
community organizations. Abel is very active in the
antiwar and civil rights movement. He is also the head
of an student organization at City College. He is
running for the city's college board overseeing 11 
campuses, 100-Million budget, 1,000 employees and
100,000 students.  He is running on a very radical
platform calling for the abolition of the Board he is
running for and its replacement for an elected board
of teachers/students/workers, progressive taxation on
big businesses to pay for education, lifting of all
"antiterrorist security" controls of students -
particularly immigrants, to put the entire college
system on record against Bush's "war on terrorism" and
a number of other issues. 
The race is one of the Citywide election and a
candidate needs about 100,000 votes to win (given the
undemocratic nature of the electoral system for most
races in the US). Abel is running against three
incumbents of the Democratic Party, one of them a
personal staff person from the powerful President of
the State Senate. The Left Party is running candidates
in both San Francisco and Berkeley. JP
