West Coast Dockworkers need help
People in West Coast port cities should show their support for the ILWU.
It would be interesting to see how the "sabotage" charges would stick
re. the "war effort" --as they might apply to Vancouver, BC, CANADA,
where the lockout is also ongoing.
Troops to load and unload cargo?
How long would or could that go on: the US taxpayer in effect paying for
the labor inputs, and thereby underwriting the profits of US capitalist
enterprises?
Could US troops stevedore cargo in Vancouver?
The ILWU is one of the greatest unions in US labor history.
The San Francisco General Strike of 1934, led by the redoubtable Harry
Bridges, set US labor's jaw for a decade of militancy.
They refused to load scrap for Imperial Japan after the Rape of Nanking.
They objected to exportation of war to French Indochina after the
Japanese were driven out. The union gave safe harbor to many workers
hounded from their jobs by the Red Squads and witch hunters of the
McCarthy period.
Let us not forget.
Hold that line.
