Sharon's forked tongue: Orwellian double-speak
A willing suspension of disbelief?
Or is it cognitive dissonance?
Or just The BIG LIE?
See below:
Sharon Calls Palestinians 'Corrupt Terrorists'
By JOHN KIFNER, New York Times, August 9, 2002
JERUSALEM, Aug. 8 ? Rallying support in a nationally televised speech
scheduled at the last minute, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon of Israel
called Yasir Arafat's Palestinian Authority "a gang of corrupt
terrorists and assassins" ?
Mr. Sharon made the remarks during a graduation ceremony at the National
Security Academy. They came as the Israeli Army struck the Gaza Strip
town of Beit Lahiya for the second day. Young people came out to throw
stones at the Israeli tanks and armored bulldozers, and a Palestinian
youth, 17, was killed by a bullet to the head as he rode a bicycle
nearby, according to Palestinian witnesses and hospital officials.
"Our national goal is clear," Mr. Sharon said in the speech. "We want
peace. Israel is a peace-seeking country, and even at these moments, in
the midst of this bloody attack we are under, we now extend our hand in
peace to our neighbors."
