Re: Moderation principles

As Louis well knows, having beat me up here more than once for my -- what
was the word -- "heterodox" [views] on various & sundry subjects, everything
from Yugoslavia (where I was wrong and mostpeople here right) to East Timor
(where I stand unrepentant) and a few things in between.

And while José draws balance sheets on his contributions to past
discussions, let me add that on the issue of school vouchers (which
attracted Martin's egregiously silly attack), although José obviously failed
to convince me on the issue of vouchers, he did convince me (once he had
explained his "heterodox" position in detail) of the correctness of what I
take to be his main point, which was that we cannot speak abstractly of the
right to public education without spelling out what we as Marxists propose
as the content of that education and how it is to be organized, and more
specifically that we expose the way in which minority and working-class
children are victimized by the public education system as it exists under
capitalism.
So, thanks José.
