North Belfast Riot Situation is Being Allowed to Develop by the
PSNI/RUC
The Irish Republican Socialist Party today called into question the
raison d'etre for the current riotous situation in North Belfast.
IRSP representative Paul Little said:
"The Glenbryn/Alliance Avenue interface is one of the most heavily
policed and militarised areas in the city. The area is under 24 hour
CCTV coverage. Loyalists are being allowed to attack nationalist
homes for hours on end, with police and military personnel standing
idly by.
"We believe that the PSNI/RUC, working under the political direction
of the British Government with sections of the Stormont Executive in
agreement, is deliberately leaving nationalist working class areas
with no protection.
"The PSNI/RUC are not the meat in the sandwich. They are
protagonists, along with loyalists, against the nationalist
community.
"This strategy of deliberately putting the lives and homes of
nationalists at risk cannot be allowed to succeed. The whole
community is entitled to fair and equal policing. Regardless of
whether a community supports the PSNI/RUC or not.
"Everyone in a just society is due the full protection of the law.
No one should be made victims of political expediency."
In conclusion, the IRSP representative said:
"Is it not ironic that working class communities, who suffered so
much during the war, are the same people suffering during the peace?
Who really is benefiting from the political process? There is no
peace process now!"
