It isn't surprising that almost nobody voted for the Socialist Alliance.
First, in Australia, "socialist" is a synonym for "martian".
Second, "nobody" knows who the "Socialist Alliance" are. They have no track
record.
Thirdly, anyone who would have voted for them was already going to vote for
the Greens, who were likely to actually get people elected.
My initial reaction to Alex's article was "what the hell has he been
smoking?". It's normal for the DSP to focus on the organisational aspects of
their election campaigns, rather than the usually effectively non-existent
voting results, but after a while you do start to wonder what planet they
are on...
The SA campaign in Tasmania was never going to get more than a token vote.
It isn't going to get more than token votes in other states either. That
doesn't mean that its campaigns are futile.
