The hints mixed with history are indeed foreboding.
I am also disturbed by other combinations that could portend a
ruthlessness aimed at designated "terrorists-by-definition"
--that is, people determined to be terrorists by inclination,
as Communists were accused of acts they did not commit in
the 1950s, i.e., "the violent overthrow of the United States
Government". As the stock markets tumble, to historic depths,
their fall with pull capitalist economies behind them in the vortex.
As in the 1930s, people left with ruined futures, plundered "nest eggs"
and stolen opportunities will seriously question the system.
Others will be drawn over by populist reactionaries and fascism,
but we must be prepared this time around not to let the potential
for revolution be betrayed by our internecine feuds.
