Re:The God That Failed (Devil that Succeeded?)

"Excellently ironic title...
Judas goats to pin it on--rather than confronting the obvious fact that
the problem is inherent to the system: it breeds selfish crooks.
And everybody else gets ripped off.
"

I wouldn't start reciting the Manifesto in public just yet. We all know
that the system is limping along the road choking on its own fuel--but
while the American capitalists are driving drunk, everyone else in the
country is still lounging in the passenger's seat. If the system collapses,
it will re-inflate itself as always. The only way to change the damn thing
is to organize some opposition: of which there is presently very little
here.

The sects are no doubt ecstatic over Armageddon but that's no good if the
really revolutionary class goes down in its flames too. Are there any signs
of mass mobilization here? Is Labor Party or Green Party expanding its
base? Are their strike and labor contract issues looming? Is there a vocal
section of opposition in even the Democratic Party? Will the economic
crisis be obscured by a 'timely' Gulf War II?

I think these are the kinds of questions we need to ask, and the way they
are answered as time goes on should shed a whole hell of a lot of light on
this whole core/periphery working-class concept. The strength of the
American bourgeoisie and the confidence on the public in it may determine
the degree of success with which Bush etc. will be able to support
Peruvian/Columbian/Venezulean/Argentinian forces of reaction.
