Vouchers--one more thing...
Elitist parties, operating within the framework of nominal "bourgeois
democracy" or "bourgeois republicanism" have always had the mass social base
problem: how to rule in the interests of the few while garning enough
"votes" from the masses voting against their own interests--for a party that
cannot/will not serve the interests of any sections of the broad masses
"voting" for it. The "answer"? Single-issue "bones" or "crumbs" thrown to
the animals and both the democrats and republicans--like the nazis in
Germany and elsewhere--do it all the time. Working class catholics get
drawn-in on the abortion issue; upper middle-class yuppies get drawn-in on
"green" issues; working class nativists get drawn-in on anti-immigrant or
nominally "anti-globalization" issues; homophobes get drawn-in on anti-Gay
issues; working class veterans get dran-in on veterans and "patriotism"
issues; credit-card-maxed-out yuppies get drawn-in on lower tax issues;
homeowners get drawn-in on lower prooperty tax issues.
And some progressives and middle-class/relatively privileged professionals
(minority and non-minority) are now getting drawn-in on
"vouchers-for-"choice"-and-quality-education" issues.
All I need to know is that whatever the Bushies are for I am against.
Period.
