Argentina: the credibility factor
I followed what Nestor Gorojovski wrote. I read some
disillusion in his words. And I understand ... he
felt left outside the crowd. What he calls the
"tragic alliance" on the streets. Some bitterness at
the fact that tens of thousands marched against the
crimes at Pueyrredon bridge.
He would have preferred that his loved CGT (rebelde)
of Mr. Moyano would have done something, but they did
not. Instead, those who he calls the middle class and
the lumpen proletariat (with other terms, though) did.
He said "at the end I was wrong." And he was, and
the instinct of the marchers were right. Zamora was
right. The photographer of Pagina 12, a Zamora
supporter for all we know, was right.
Gorojovski calls this situation and this movement
"tragic" because at the very end his formalism doesn't
allow him to see that is the form that is taking, the
unpredictable composition of the first batallions what
he can't understand. This is not taking the predicted
course.
The murderers were the cops, the one in charge, was
the one who pulled the trigger. It is now known that
the cops targeted the leaders, they went after the
leftists, the Trotskyists, the Communist Party
activists, the unemployed organizers, the "scum."
There was no "provocation" from the demonstrators, was
coldly planned and plain murder.
In his second post, Nestor implied that there was
something the demonstrators did at Pueyrredon bridge
that brought about the tragedy.
Gorojovski at first could not believe it. He talked
about "wrong tactics" without understanding, because
maybe does not fit in his rational mind the fact that
the murders were planned long before they actually
happened.
Duhalde is a Kerenski allright, if I understand what
Mr. Gorojovski is saying. But a Kerenski with a
moribund and sclerotic Peronist movement as his base.
The multitude yesterday were a mix of the radical
left, the middle class desperados, the
lumpemproletariat, the workers who came individually
because their leaders did not dare to come. The
leaders of the workers (DeGennaro) who spent all day
calling "not to go to the demonstration" (but their
ranks went anyway) they were forced to go, so they
showed up.
In this framework, the voice of few Congress people
who had the courage to charge the cops, the moral
authority of saying first, before the government was
forced to admit it that there was a murder, that the
demonstrators at Puente Pueyrredon were "hunted down"
like dogs, that the cops did kick in the doors of the
left wing party and shot everyone inside.
So, Mr. Gorojowski said what the government is saying,
more or less ... "there is a conspiracy against the
government, all this would bring about darker forces,"
it is the echo of the impotence of those who govern
nothing, control nothing and are trapped in the line
of fire.
There is no conspiracy. It is the chaos of a ruling
class that is disintegrating. The chaos brought about
by a dirty class struggle that knows no channels and
have no recognized and undisputed leaders. There is
no working class involved in an homogeneous movement
that is consciously looking to overthrow the system.
In that situation, Zamora is believable and people
respect him for saying publicly what everyone knows
instinctively. And Pagina 12 had credibility because
it dared to publish the photographs of the events, the
photographs of the crime, the article calling Zamora
the Emile Zola of this time was published. That
requires courage, and courage is replacing
intellectual savvy or even organization.
The despised "leftists", the one like Zamora who was
despised and ridiculed when he was first elected
fifteen years ago and was alone among 400 other
thieves in Congress making speeches that other
congressmen like Duhalde would ridicule and laugh at,
are now the only credibility factor of a Republic in
ruins, of a capitalist society that is dying.
Beware of what is going to happen. In that sense
Gorojovsky is right. It could be the "Black 100s" but
also could be the case that something will be built to
stop them. That is difficult, but is no way out, is
the only thing to do. Supporting the Kerenski
figurehead would only bring the Kornilov from the
military garrisons sooner and bloodshed will ensue.
What Gorojowski does not see is that the mass movement
that is again reborn and on the streets is the wind
that is moving the upper branches of the trees. But
the hurricane is coming, the working class is reaching
the point of inflexion in which they will overcome
their leadership and come out to lead those who are
trapped in the middle, the unemployed, the bankrupted
small merchants, the middle class desperados ... they
will march, sooner or later, as they say with "their
leaders at their head or the head of their leaders."
A group of some friends and myself collected $1,000
and sent it to some of the most radical working class
groups there. Is the least we can do. Many people
are jumping out of the sinking ship that is Argentina,
but I also know of some people who are getting their
baggs ready and heading towards Argentina. I admire
those people.
By the way, I heard Zamora is planning to come to the
US to make some kind of tour for a few days. He needs
money for his movement, he needs help ... I'll let you
know when something more concrete develops.
