Strikers as terrorists/resistance to privatization
Good juxtaposition of articles, Lou.
It maybe only a matter of time before the governments of Eastern Europe
decide that it is in their "national interest" to discipline the working
class, i.e., the majority of their national citizens. An efficient and
competitive corporate empire requires standardized in-line integration
of its peripheral units as well as harmonization of labor inputs. I am
sure the ILWU is well aware of the ramifications and potentials of this
aspect of globalization ("harmonization" always means the lowest common
denominator, or wage and benefits levels). It reduces down to an absurd
ideology that the well-being of the wealthiest capitalists means the
well-being of those they have exploited and deprived as a means of
achieving their wealth. If any positive angle exists at all in this
globalization scam, it is perhaps the growing realization of the workers
of the world that we are all in the same boat.
