40,000 in Demo in Argentina

cops smashing open  a metal door of the Communist
Party/Izquierda Unida headquarters in the neighborhood
of Avellaneda, go to:

The cops blew the metal door of the headquarters with
a grenade, then they kicked in the wooden door and
assaulted the headquarters. There were five wounded
(at least) and 15 people were arrested.

Congressman Luis Zamora of Self Determination and
Freedom Party and Assembly member Vilma Ripoll (from
MST/Izquierda Unida) were at that moment at the
Fiorito Hospital were 90 wounded were transported
after the police repression yesterday at the
Pueyrredon bridge.

Zamora and Ripoll ran to the CP/Izquierda Unida
offices. While Ripoll, with the help of some neighbors
took care of the wounded, Zamora charged against the
officer in charge of the operation and pushed him
outside the offices screaming "this is a legal
political party, get out of here!"

The police finally retreated when hundreds of
neighbors and political activists from almost all
parties in the area started to converge on
the site.

Today, an estimated 40,000 people demonstrated against
the assasination yesterday of two members of the CTD
Anibal Veron (an unemployed Coordinating body).

Some of the contigents spotted at the demonstration:

CP and is front group Movimiento Territorial, 800
people in their contigent.

MST (Trotskyist) 500

PO (Trotskyst) - Polo Obrero (its piquetero front) -
500

MAS (Trotskyist) - 300 at their contingent

Self-Determination and Freedom - 300

ARI (Center Left) 400

CTD Anibal Veron - MIJP (Tenants and retires people)
the organization of Castells - 1,200 people in their
contingent

Partido Liberacion - Guevarists/Maoists - 150

Madres de Plaza de Mayo - 400

Asambleas populares froma bout 15 neighborhoods -
4,000 people

OST, FOS, CS, and other assorted Trotskyists groups
between 80-100 each.

PTS (Trotskyist) - 250

CTA - labor federation which first boycotted the demo
and then changes its mind (some say were forced by
their rank and file) - 1,500 (mainly teachers)

Assorted students groups and student governments from
different colleges - 3-4,000 people

CCC/PCR - Maoists - not seen or heard of at least from
those participating in the demo and reporting from it.

There were at least one banner of each from the LSR
(Trotskyst), the UTS (Trotskyst), UDM (?), UPS (?) and
the PRT (reborn guevarist and guerrilla group fromt he
70s).

There were also contingents of the Radical Youth (UCR,
bourgeois, socialdemocratic party, Argentinean section
of the 2nd International and the Party of President De
La Rua, overthrew last December by the mass
mobilizations)

Some very small groups of dissident Peronist Youth
groups.
