a little irony

Apologies if this is not quite relevent to the list or ends up in the wrong place as I am still learning the ropes here but I wanted to share something amusing.

I homeschool my son and we were at a public libarary which happens to have a TV and video for public use (with headphones) in an area which children can frequent easily. At the time we did not have possession of our TV and so were watching the odd movie at the library. The ironic part of this is that my 12yo son chose The Games video, the political(?) satire for us to watch together (he is very fond of humour including the politically flavoured). However he was told that as this video was rated PG they were unable to allow him to watch it in the library as children might see it. He was very upset at this and got nowhere lobbying to be able to watch it then and there. I found the only G movie that I was prepared to sit through and it was Animal Farm. We were allowed to watch that one.

The irony in all this is that after watching The Games at home, I note there does not seem to be an offensive image in it (unless of course you include mock beauracrats and businesspeople as offensive in and of themselves<g>) whereas the Animal Farm video was chock full of violent scenes all done in a way that had little children clamouring to watch and wondering why they too couldn't hear the TV, given that it could only be heard through the headphones. Is that ironic or what?

Thanks for 'listening', just wanted to get a little incident off my chest and this seemed a sympathetic environment.
