Re: Prods
In light of the recent debate in respect to the nature
of loyalism/Protestantism I would like to add my two
cent worth. (Finding it hard to not use tuppence then
sometimes you just have to move with the times.)
I have noticed in recent mails that my good comrade
O'Neill is getting dissed by a triumvirate comprising
two Queenslanders and Danielle.
The extent of the argument so far:
a) "You are thrashed and I will never read another
piece of crap from you. I warned you but no you had
to get into the insults - so f..k off."
b) "Gary is absolutely correct in his observations
about the "Prods". To an equal extent also, Mr O'Neill
is an f'ing scumbag."
c) "Is this a Marxist list or am I merely
hallucinating that it's one?"
I know what Danielle feels about the GFA.
How about the two Queenslanders enlightening me
as to how they feel. Apologies for using one of your
favourites sayings (Domhnall) but I would be
interested to know what you know about the objective
realities on the ground.
To me, what has come out in the discussion on
'Leninist' party structures is, the biggest mistake
was trying to replicate a formula from one country to
another.
To me, this is what you are trying to do with Northern
Ireland. I don't know whether Jim Drysdale is still on
the list but he got a strike for less than what Gary
and John E. said.
Most people on the left in Ireland understand the
nature of British imperialism and its current decline.
The left are also aware of the influence of American
imperialism on the world and the nascent influence
of the EU.
Rightly or wrongly and only time will tell, some of us
have different ways of dealing with it. All of these
have a direct or indirect influence on the future of
Northern Ireland.
So Gary, Danielle and John how do you see the future
of Northen Ireland, particularly where does the
Protestant majority fit in besides deporting all the
prods or as John in a fit of pique suggested building
a gas chamber?
In fact I think Zak makes a very relevant point when
he says
"I think it might be worthwhile to look at the
class connections and interests of the whole northern
Irish working class. Still, perhaps full-scale civil
war might rid us of the muck of ages. On second
thoughts..."
Whatever happened to the ideals of Tone and the
United Irishmen. And has the triumvirate given up on
the starting point for socialists - worker's unity.
I make no excuses for the fact that I come from the
Official tradition and view things differently.
I haven't seen it written in stone that those of
Marxian views can't have different interpretations on
things.
Fraternally
Paul.
