Pomeranz Thesis (fwd)

Question to Lou regarding his post ( Re: Forwarded
mail.... From: Louis Proyect <vze47t8m@xxxxxxxxxxx>

In his little post Lou wrote,

"However, scholarship does not stand still. In "The Great Divergence,"
Kenneth Pomeranz demonstrated that if anything Chinese agriculture was
even more capitalist than Great Britain in the period when supposedly
Great Britain was spawning capitalism within its bowels."

Since I do not have the book here, and haven't read it, I would like to
know in which period of history - according to Pomeranz - Chinese
agriculture was more captitalist than in Great Britain, and in which ways.

In particular, I would like to know what the book says about the following
issues.

Does Pomeranz mean, for instance, that a greater percentage of Chinese
agricultural product was sold for money in commercial markets?

Or does Pomeranz mean that money rents were commonly paid to landowners by
tenants?

Or does Pomeranz mean that there was a proportionally larger class of
agricultural wage workers in China than in Great Britain?

All the best,
Anthony
