RE: A bit of clarification and expansion [Mormons etc]
My last communication on this as this is really rasing my blood pressure
especially seeing this written on a Marxism list by an Indian.

Anecdotal stories is my primary method of telling History.
Obviously, the gap remains between Jim Craven and myself on the Mormon
thing. We each obviously have strong eyes but we are simply on different
mountain peaks on this one. I definitely don't accept his perception of LDS
theology and collateral dimensions. I see -- as I've seen for much of my
life -- the Mormon church in day-to-day grassroots operation. On the basis
of that, I certainly appreciate what it's doing.
Response (Jim C)
Anecdotal stories can be useful except when they are employed to avoid
dealing with evidence. What about the recent statements of "Prophet and
Revelator" [who by definition is the only one passing on the "true word of
God"] about Native Children becoming lighter in skin color and having their
DNA change when raised in Mormon homes? What about the Book of Mormon views
on the origins of "Lamanites" and dark skin being the "Mark of Ham"? What
about people like Steven, raised in the Mormon Church, an expert grasp of
Mormon theology, unlike George Lee (about whom I was not referring) with no
stain or charges against them by the Mormon Church (BTW, I have a long list
of influencial pedophiles in the Mormon Church who were protected and whose
prosecution was directly obstructed by the Mormon Church) leaving because of
the anti-Indian racism in the Church and in the theology of that church?
What about the naked and ugly homophobia of the Mormon Church and the
damages that it does to real people? What about the sexist views of women
being total servants of the man and husband doctrine of the Church? What
about the [documented] organizational connections of the elites of the
Mormon Church with ultra-rightist forces and intelligence agencies all over
the world? What about Mormon missionaries being used as contacts by CIA and
various intelligence agencies all over the world? What about the preference
by CIA, FBI, NSA etc for Mormons not only because of their lifestyles, but
because of their typically compatible theology/ideology? What about the
documented reprisals and slanders by Mormon officials of those who chose to
leave the Church and who had actually taken no public stands against the
Church? What about the historical role of the Mormons in grabbing,
indoctrinating and forced-adopting Native children? What about Mormon
cover-ups of and refusals to admit, systematic sexual and physical abuse,
kidnapping etc in Boarding and REsidential Schools in Canada and the U.S?
What about documented connections between Mormon missionaries and
ultra-rightist military forces in Mexico and Latin America? What about the
documented support by the Mormon Church for a wide range of repressive and
anti-poor, anti-gay and anti-women legislation in the U.S. and Canada?
Excuse me for this Hunter, but exactly what kind of academic, socialist and
Indian are/were you?
It is not about "feelings" and "perceptions"; it is about concrete evidence
and addressing it directly without diversions or trips down memory lane.
Jim C.
