History of Palestinian Terror: deja-vu again already
This from a friend in Oregon:
While going through Portland newspapers for the summer of 1946
(searching for the Portland Roses--the city's Black baseball team owned
by Jesse Owens) I ran across the following items that, by switching a
few identities, become today's news
Oregon Journal June 11, 1946 headline: "Jewish Raiders Blow Bridges in
Palestine." (United Press) "Jewish extremists using automatic weapons,
land mines and bombs blew up eight bridges along the
Palestine-Transjordan frontier during the night...at least four persons
were known dead and 14 seriously wounded in the latest Jewish
underground attack...Police bloodhounds, Royal airforce planes, British
troops and the Arab legion of Transjordan joined the search. King
Abdullah stated... that he intended to take "drastic action." The body
of one Jew and portions of another body were found near one bridge. They
had been carrying mines and booby traps and were killed when they
exploded prematurely. ...High civil and military authorities met for
three hours this morning, apparently to discuss ways of combating a
possible widespread outbreak of terrorism."
Oregon Journal June 29, 1946 headline: "British Open Holy Land Drive on
Jew Raiders" (Associated Press) "Britain began large scale military
operations in Palestine on the Jewish Sabbath at dawn today in what one
official called a drive to wipe out "a state of anarchy." Troops and
police occupied buildings in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv used by the Jewish
agency...The British clamped a curfew on wide areas of the troubled Holy
Land. Many if not all members of the Jewish agency's executive committee
were arrested...for cooperating in a recent reign of 'violence against
the government.'... the operations were described by Sir John Shaw,
chief secretary of the Palestine government, as an 'effort to end the
state of anarchy existing in Palestine and to enable law abiding
citizens to pursue their normal avocations without fear of kidnapping,
murder or being blown up."
