It's actually fairly reminiscent of the early days of the SWP (US).
After turning the Workers Party into a Trotskyist organization, they
dissolved it and merged into the Socialist Party. One of the reasons
they left (and formed the SWP) was that Norman Thomas' leadership would
not permit them to sell their paper.
