I believe you hit it on the head Charles. The money of the Negro people is
also sought after. Thanks for putting black people in quotes. The "Negro
Question" does not mean "the question of blacks in America." This cannot be
proven because of the color psychosis. For example the ascendancy of Colin
Powell is understood and counterpoised to the ascendancy of say, Denzel
Washington. Colin Powell is not "Negro," but Jamaican, but because he is
brown skinned is lumped together with the descendants of slaves, while Denzel
Washington is Negro. I had an opportunity to read Colin Powell's interesting
biography several years ago and he makes his origins perfectly clear.
Consider the following: the Minister Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam
is not "Negro." Jamaicans and other dark skinned people are not Negro.
The presentation of the question is complex because the Negro peoples are not
a race or ethnic group and consequently lack ay conception of ethnicity even
when the word is used. The concept of a black middle class obscures a
decisive view of the Negro middle class. All black people in America are not
Negro because the word "Negro" is used as distinct from the word black. The
Negro Peoples were birthed in America and every Jamaican or "West Indian"
will patiently explain this to anyone who asks. The Nigerian in the United
States is not Negro, nor is the Ethiopian.
The ascendancy of Halle and Denzel and their awarding of the highest symbols
of the Hollywood industry is a tribute to that which is Negro on the one hand
and acknowledge of the intractability of the Negro Question. Hollywood
outdistanced the government and Colin Powell ain't no Negro - and ain't never
claimed he was one. The pressure on the US government and internal social
structures comes from the unrelenting violent struggle of the Negro
proletarian masses on the one hand and International commerce on the other.
Major networks have opened their doors to many Negro Actors. Sidney P.
(pronounce his last name slowly in your mouth) is not a Negro. Denzel is the
first Negro male actor to be given an Oscar. All the Negroes know this but
operate under "the conditions of the absurd." (Conditions of the absurd was
coined by Professor Cornel West).
I am a Negro National minority within the industrial heartland of the North
and a freaking Yankee to boot. This is obvious but the color psychosis and
Marxist definitions shaped in the hands of the imperial peoples continue to
dominate. Anyone who has looked into the life of Sidney knows he had to learn
American (Negro) English. I love all of his movies since his and Bill Cosby
collaboration. The systematic distortion of every element of the Negro is
crucial to the stability of USNA imperialism and containing the lower
sections of the working class. The lower sections of the working class, in
its multinational character is galvanized and expresses itself on the basis
of that, which is Negro or rather the Negro matrix and this does not mean
simply black.
Twenty years ago everyone in America observed with alarm - including myself,
the emergence of a reconstructed "Rap" music and the so-called Hip Hop
generation, where in Anglo American youth, "Arabs" and people with brown and
black skinned referred to themselves as "niggas" which evolved into a partial
class designation, totally different from the "N" word. Spike Lee shows a
caricature of this process in Bamboozled.
The question is only complex because of the color psychosis. Aggressive USNA
imperialism must have a certain social stability on the front to wage war.
The most proletarian sector of the Negro peoples engage in bloodletting,
which does not worry me in the least, and this bloodletting explodes into
cycles of violence against the oppressive state authority. It took a lot of
violence; killing and material assertions not to be reduced back to slaves in
history.
Concepts of "racism" blind the revolutionaries. "Racism" is not what
holds the Negro people down. "Racism" is an ideological rationale. Something
else holds the Negro People down. The social position of the Negro People as
a people evolved based on the mechanics of world commerce and white
chauvinism is an ideological rationale. America is a country of immigrants
but the Negro people are not immigrants, but rather migrated from the old
slaveholding South to the industrial Northern urban centers with the
increased mechanization of agriculture. An ideological form is by definition
a distortion and outruns reality. What has held the Negro masses in check is
unremitting violence that was justified on the plane of ideology by "color" -
first white supremacy.
American Marxist have in the main utterly failed in the treatment of
the Negro Question, although the Stalin supporters have come closest to a
radical break with the petty bourgeois concepts of the Marxist amongst the
dominating peoples. The non-exploiting classes in American history have
always instinctively understood that their material well being was tied to
the brutal exploitation of the non-sovereign peoples. In history, if the Wall
Street imperialist could not count on the Anglo-American worker to brutally
enforce job discrimination, housing and educational segregation and political
disenfranchisement, the imperialist system could not exist. We cannot escape
history and pretend it does not exist. We must conquer our own history and
not condemn it wholesale.
The fact of the matter is the imperialist bribery of the Anglo-American
people, including the working class made it profitable to brutally murder
Negro women and children, to burn their houses and churches, to take their
land and to meet appeals for justice with an indescribably bloody violence.
History will place a collective responsibility upon the Anglo American people
for the horrors of the lynch rope and burning stake of that period of
history. This isn't the history of the Jamaican or the Nigerian. These acts
were not the results of white chauvinism but justified by ideology.
In American history white supremacy arose as the early justification for acts
of primitive accumulation of capital, which involved the destruction of the
Native ands of people and the colonization of the colored masses. White
supremacy grew with Anglo-American expansionism. So long as there was no real
economic incentive for white supremacy in the USNA or rather the English
colonies is did not assume the dimensions of a violent mass ideology.
Although the "color factor" is actually ancient in human history, the Native
bands were slaughtered because they were "heathens" and "primitive." White
supremacy grew with the need to clear the Western frontier. With the rapid
development of slavery in the South a new rationale other than bringing the
Africans here to make Christians of them was needed. Chauvinism is an
ideology that basically states that one nation is better than another and its
people are superior to another peoples. Chauvinism does away with class
outlooks and class concepts and substitutes the national imperialist outlook.
Given this role of white supremacy in American history white chauvinism
sublated white supremacy as the aggressive ideology of imperial colonization
and provided the excuse - ideological justification, for the brutal e
xploitation of the colored nations and peoples of the world. White chauvinism
was the form that the social bribery took to the Anglo-American peoples that
prevented the unity of the working class and was the principle ideology of
aggressive USNA imperial fascism - fascism in relationship to the conquered
peoples and bourgeois democracy for the dominating peoples. White chauvinism
as ideology aided the early immigration patterns from "Europe," predicated on
keeping the slave and their descendant chained to the land and on the bottom
of the social ladder.
Aggressive USNA imperialism cannot maintain its world hegemony on the basis
of an aggressive ideology of white chauvinism. The people of America cannot
be united into a war front on the basis of an aggressive ideology of white
chauvinism. The lower sector of the working class is slowly being filled with
millions of Anglo Americans who cannot be contained on the basis of an
aggressive ideology of white chauvinism. This is not an "underclass," which
in the USNA is a specific concept that arose to describe the increasing
polarization within the working class. This so-called "underclass" is a
sector of the proletariat that cannot sell its labor power for enough "means"
to stay above the margin. This sector of the proletariat is not simply
unemployed or just the homeless but being formed from various layers of
society whose labor is being increasingly rendered superfluous to the
production of surplus value and faces a radically lowered standard of living.
Over 40 million people in America are without medical insurance and a serious
illness in the family means virtual destitution.
The white chauvinism of the past period will not simply disappear. There has
been a material lessening of the edge of white chauvinism (without quotes) in
my lifetime. This is the political and economic context of in which Denzel
and Halle won Oscar. The arrival of both at the top does not mean economic
relief for the proletarian masses but indicates an ideological shift in
aggressive USNA imperialist ideology. Repeat! Denzel is the first Negro male
to receive Oscar. Everyone with a brown or black face is not Negro and does
not necessarily assimilate that which is unique to the Negro People. The
color psychosis is the fundamental ideological impediment to the process of
social revolution.
Every Negro in America understood that Hale and Denzel's comments were not
about the black Nigerians, the Congo, Jamaicans or the black West Indies but
Negroes in America and a warning from a sector of Negro capital. The lowest
sector of the proletariat could give less than a hoot abut Hollywood and
secure bootleg tapes and records, along with the other sectors of the working
and laboring class.
Nevertheless, it is a legitimate demand on the part of the oppressed masses
to want control of their images. The struggle is complex because there is a
small Negro bourgeoisie. Denzel was the "star" as oposed to Holy because he
is the first Negro male to win Oscar and a sig of the times - an ideological
shift.
Braking/breaking with all forms of capital requires militantly defeating the
lingering white chauvinism and requires crystal clarity of class perspective
to radically isolate and destroy the control of the "middle" - the social
prop, (not military) of capital.
In this respect the Marxist movement as an intellectual movement has failed
in America in a fundamental way because it is blinded by color. Everyone
black is not a descendant of the people who emerged fro the "melting pot of
slavery."
Oh, yea . . . part of the solution is the break up of the USNA multi-national
state as such, but this is conditioned by material factors as they unfold.
Let's see what happens in Mexico and how this will impact the "Southwest."
There of course remains a dormant secessionist movement in parts of the
South, which can be pretty scary at times.
