I've noticed this myself, in IT especially where the "Ayn Rand was
Right" sentiment seems disproportionally prevalent.
A number of years ago a rabbi (whose name I forget) wrote a book, "Why
Bad Things Happen to Good People." The idea of the book was to
rationalize misfortune with a religious perspective. The "I don't blame
the Company" thought is along the same lines. Fired employees try to
find reason, and can only do it by sympathizing with the company that
screwed them over.
It's depressing, it really is. You watch someone who put 20-odd-years
into a job let go without another thought, trying to support "his"
company despite the layoff. I wonder how they rationalize the raises
the corporate executives give themselves after a major layoff. I never
have the heart to ask.
