Sunday Horse.

Today I have had a long conversation with Mario Mazzitelli, the Secretary 
General of the Partido Socialista Auténtico. The PSA is a "reformist", if you 
want, version of my own group. But they are quite larger and have good links 
with ordinary people in the Gran Buenos Aires area. Mario confirmed empirycally 
that the situation here is quite more interesting, from the political point of 
view, than the mere rejection of Sunday Horse.

His view, backed by so many anecdotes that it would take a volume to comment on 
each of them, is that what in fact has happened is that 

(a) the Rodríguez Saá experience has opened up the eyes of people to the 
possibility that a completely different path CAN be followed,

(b) the whole gamut of "traditional" political parties has been forced to 
appear in their true face, that is the face of a Single Party regime where 
there is no actual opposition,

(c) the appearence of a new space in politics, a space that can be filled in by 
a completely different kind of opposition, an opposition which can take 
Argentina along a national, revolutionary path.

So that in a sense we are having a "pre-Kerensky" situation here, too.

The fires of December 19 (those who still didn't see them can watch them on the 
collection of slides that Chris has forwarded to the list) are burning beneath 
the ashes.

That is probably why the imperialists are putting such a pressure on Duhalde: 
in order to force the country to defend this weak and bureaucratic government 
instead of looking for new roads to the future. But we shall do both.
