Dear Louis,

I just read your brief report on the meeting of the new Board of
Pacifica this weekend in NYC. Your historical description of me is so
wrong that I have to reply - and ask you to send my comments to your
list. Thanks.

a) I never represented the DuBois Clubs - I was never in the DuBois
Clubs. Yes, this rumor about me has had legs for over 30 years. I think
it's time to let it do, give it up, put it away...stop it.
b) The shaky anti-war alliance you refer to was not only between the CP
and the SWP but also included the pacifist community, with independent
left forces playing a lesser but nonetheless important role. That's were
I fit in...an independent lefist.
c) I frequently agreed with the perspective of the CP, just as I was
deeply moved by the insights and commitment of pacifists. But I was
neither, for reasons too many to go into at this late hour after an
extremely full weekend.
d) Was your firecracker reference just a vivid image, or are you saying
I literally threw firecrackers? No way, I'm to scared - always have been
- of firecreckers. You must have me mixed up with someone else.
e) Finally, while it's true that I've been a leftist and organizer for
decades, I very much hope people don't see me as a "fixture". I'm much
more interested in being an active participate!
