RE: Subject: Love and Proyect
Mike Friedman suggest my "comments regarding plastic containers,
machetes,
etc., are a little off the mark, because you are now talking about
communities that have become integrated into into larger markets."
No indeed, I am talking about communities that were supposed, by
Sahlins,
to have all they needed, who saw a modern tool and traded hours of work for
it. I'm talking about when the ancient mode of production meets the modern
and the modern is immediately found to be preferable, product for product.
To me, Sahlins just follows in the "Golden Age" tradition of romantic
revisionism. If it makes people consider the secular fall of man, I think
it's great. If it makes people soft-headed it's not.
