Louis:
About relations of production in named "third world" you could to
read "The Brazilian Revolution" of Caio Prado Jr. This brazilian
marxist historian proof the inexistence of feudalism at any moment of
Brazil's history (since discover year 1500). The general thesis of
feudalism in colonized countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America
was imposed in years 1920 by International Communist. Therefore, in
each country the local Communist Party hammered this thesis to local
reality, wthout a deep analysis. The characterization of feudalism,
in my opinion, is adequate only for Europe. In Portugal, for
instance, feudalism was finished with burgeoise revolution of year
1383 (yes, before French Revolution). The finishment of feudalism
proporcionate the posterior portuguese maritime expansion for all
world, the discoveries, a large capitalist venture. But it's abusive
to extend the feudalism concept for all world. It's not necessary to
use this concept to explain the modern exploration of human labour in
Africa (or in mexican maquilladoras, in american sweeatshops and so
on) --- it's capitalist.
