Wow.

I wonder if, when Mumia was framed, Ellie said "equally ridiculous is
that MOVE will us this to gain support on the left for their
martyrdom." I certainly hope not.

I would take this occurence to be a sign that the bosses are stepping
up their assault on dissenters and progressives. This as a very real
danger, something that we should be responding to with every force we
can muster.

Others, apparently, see no danger other than the potential of Jack
Barnes to get a couple more supporters.

Folks, we're not dealing with an "academic" situation here. What's
going on is not something where we can sit back, sneer, and call the
play-by-play. We're dealing with a situation in which immigrants are
being legally segregated, where Arabs are being harrassed whenever they
get on airplanes, where Sikhs are being assaulted because they wear
turbans, where the FBI *as we speak* is gathering any and all
information they can about immigrants and anti-war activists on college
campuses.

This new "anti-terrorism" bill, aka the "Patriot Act," basically gives
the green light for the cops and the Feds to do whatever the hell they
feel like, as long as there's some link to "anti-terrorism" in the
report afterwards.

I can't emphasize enough how revolted I am at Ellie's comments. This is
not a period in which we can sit back and carry on with our petty
sectarian battles (with some people, these are more like "obsessions").
Louis has posted before on how critical the coming period will be - I
believe the critical period has already begun.

I hope everybody who reads this (well, the ones who don't put me in
there killfiles) will remember, and ask themselves a single question
which I believe defines who you are in the coming struggle:

Which side are you on?
