On what grounds do you say that this isn't true. I was in Liverpool at the
time of the 1981 riots and the Militant position was a very legalistic
position, that had no class basis. They were always very uncomfortable with
any action that took place outside the remit of the LAbour Party. They did
attack looters just like they attacked the poll tax rioters in 1990, but
this was hardly surprising for an organisation that believed the police
were "workers in uniform". All of these bizarre positions were a result of
their time in the Labour Party and their very "orthodox trotskyism".
There's a very interesting document put out by the small British group
'Worker's Liberty', which details the brief time spent by their leader Sean
Matgamma in the early Militant organisation. In it he reveals how bad their
understanding of the state was.
