>From Jim Drysdale,

***** Louis, an interesting article. I'm not at all well versed on Latin
America. However, I know enough to realise that it is and will continue to
be hit very hard by the on-rushing global depression in the growth of
profit. Unemployment is high and will continue to soar. Not the least
because foreign capital has taken flight, coupled with and adding to debt.
So, land reform that offers state and private land to the people is very
interesting. That is, as trade stutters to a halt, populations still have
to be fed. Call me an old suspector of *ruling class motives* but here in
our wee bit of peripheral northern european grun (Britain) the foot and
mouth 'epidemic' (and BSE) has meant that much former farm land will now be
worthless. (not forgetting the pull of value itself)
Certainly, requirements of the CAP play a part. But, this wee bit of
peripheral grun will also have to still feed its population. So, as I say,
interesting in a sort of socialised organic capital in decline sort of way.
Socialist type forms have a sneeky way of popping themselves in, in an adled
fashion, from among declining capitalist forms.
Still, they're no substitute for an integrated socialist global economy.

comradely,

Jim.
