On the other hand, mainland Italy _was_ heavily defended, and was invaded
well before mid-44. Of course, the offensive in Italy fell foul of being
the second priority after the buildup in Britain.

Of course.
That is, in Europe, anyway. In Asia, there was this little country called
China.
