Stageism
At the WTO demonstrations in Seattle, I had the misfortune of running into a
rather vocal, loud and somewhat arrogant RCPer who was a model and prototype
of what Ward Churchill talked about in his "Marxism and Native Americans".
After the usual menu of "running-dog-lackeys" and
"snakes-in-the-pocket-of-the-proletariat" type and level of commentary (not
directed against me or Indians in general) this person proceeded to tell me
that: "You people, you Indians, have it rough; you'll have to make a much
larger leap forward than most capitalist workers--from "primitive
communalism" all the way past Slavery, Feudalism and Capitalism directly to
Socialism." I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I answered him that given
what he was telling me and how --and the tone in which--he was telling it,
probably if, and when, we reach his kind of "socialism", we'll have to take
another even bigger leap forward past pseudo-socialism, revisionism and
crypto-capitalism all the way to
"primitive" communalism.
He obviously didn't get it.
