I knew Lang was shady, but I under-estimated the guy, no wonder Keating (a
recent Labor Prime Minister) learnt his politics at his knee.

I love your last line it is perfect:
"They are worse than merely embarassing. They turn even our most heroic
moments into farce."

Lovely stuff indeed.
