someone's brought up East Timor again so ...

Could someone, especially Gary Maclennan, please list exactly the
imperialist things the troops that went into East Timor did that was WORSE
than leaving the East Timorese to the 'Scorched Earth' policy of the
Indonesian militias/military ??

Time and time again I hear the phrase "imperialist troops" - I was selling
Green Left Weekly in the Parramatta mall the other day, when I came to the
attention of a right wing lunatic who said explicitly that he was going to
rip my head off, shit down my neck and that if he ever saw me alone I was
dead meat. He also insinuated that he knew how to kill someone with pressure
point holds and if he wasn't so tired from his work (a prison guard), he
would do me right then and there. A policeman just happened to be walking
past at that point in time and I gratefully called out for help (this
actually happened). Was I wrong in calling on the state to help me, a
(so-called) revolutionary Marxist activist ??

Again, what imperialist function did the Troops into Timor serve that was
worse than leaving the East Timorese in the hands of the Jakarta Jack boots
(a phrase the liberal democratic Sydney Morning Herald used recently
referring to Aceh) ??
